an ekphrasis: Pablo Picasso, Paul dressed as a harlequin, 1924
Beautiful words man of aran. Had no idea of the Harlequin being painted by Picasso. Can't help but think this is some kind of parenting advice in here.
Thanks, Writer! Yes, maybe I'll write a manual for parents in free verse! Sure to sell. ;-)
Do we need another one? Yes!
Commedia del arte. Jester seated is a laugh in itself .
Definitely not characteristic! Thanks, Richard.
I looked again. Harlequin appears to be standing, not seated. Appearances are deceiving.
Hmm. It's a bit ambiguous. Picasso did tend to flatten perspective a la cubist style, so maybe that explains it.
Fantastic. And the unfinished parts of the painting feel like part of the jest of boredom, too.
I also feel there’s some autobiography sneaking in here with the Canada-esque mention of hockey gear.
Thanks, Jonathan! Yes. I didn't know any boy growing up who didn't play at least a little hockey. I lasted less than a season.
And kept all your teeth
"harlequin is nothing / if not nimble. Still," -- great mastery here, Alan!
So glad you think so, Fotini!
There's a dancer there inside.
No doubt! Thanks, Annie.
I love this 😊.
Appreciate it, Margaret!
