Japan Day! (Grade 6) the egg in the bowl was raw and with a dash of soy a whip and swirl of chopsticks we were to slurp let viscid slime slide with rice down our throats and understand that it was good the coloured squares of paper were smooth and flat and the diagram said we were to fold multiply precise creases to create a thousand cranes soaring with their mates over our desks and on out the open window the words in our heads were seasonal and with models and prompts we were to spark conjure images count syllables (more or less) write three lines a hot summer day mom serves us ramen for lunch best with cubes of ice! for a haiku slurp fold spark: the lessons of Japan
