Hello all,
The year is coming to a close. We look ahead, we look back. Right now, I want to look back. To reflect, take stock, assess where I have been, all that, but primarily, I wish to express my gratitude to all the folks who drop by and read my poems. I began this newsletter on March 7 of this year, and over that time, my readership on Substack has steadily increased, and so much of that is due to the support of the community of creatives one finds here. So I am grateful too for the wonderful work of many, many fellow writers, photographers and other artists that I have discovered here and been inspired by.
Thank you, readers, subscribers, and thank you, inspiring Substackers!
So to celebrate a good year, today and each day until the new year, I will link to a selection of favourite earlier posts, for some to reread, and for newer subscribers, to perhaps read for the first time. First up is my first post, inspired by Edward Hopper’s iconic painting, Nighthawks.

Phillies There is one night light in this town: it is saffron- emerald, and it is called Phillies, easily found at the corner of Breughel and Vine. With that address, you might expect a whole population, a gaggle of antics and age, radiant life being lived, a really grand time. Instead, though, you’ll find . . . Welcome to Phillies (Click to keep reading) Thank you!
All night diners are like home. And I love this.
Man, it's been a pleasure reading your stuff.
