Saturday Special
song title poem - Tom Waits
The month is coming to an end at the Writer pilgrim Substack, where Writer Pilgrim by So Elite issued a prompt challenge, a poem composed of song titles from a particular artist. Last week I did one with Steely Dan songs and before that, Jethro Tull and David Bowie. This week it’s Tom Waits. Unlike the others, I can’t say this one is from music I listened to as a teen because I didn’t discover Tom Waits until I was well into my 40s. Below is a slightly reworked version of the one posted at Writer Pilgrim.
looking for the heart of saturday night way down the hole drunk on the moon (looking for) the heart of saturday night downtown train: red shoes by the drugstore Ruby’s arms heartattack and vine <clap hands> watch her disappear downtown train: anywhere I lay my head I’ll take New York God’s away on business <clap hands> just another sucker on the vine downtown train: how’s it gonna end a sweet little bullet from a pretty blue gun way down the hole <clap hands> I’m still here (looking for) the heart of saturday night hang on St. Christopher chocolate Jesus <clap hands> make it rain
